1. Open your Windows Explorer (Press "WinKey + E")
2. On the address bar, copy and paste the following URL.

How to Create a Virtual Drive of a Folder in Windows

If you frequently use specific folders then you might as well assign a drive letter to it to easily access it from your Windows Explorer. There is an old and unpopular DOS command that can do this. Using "subst" you may assign easy to remember drive letters to any specific local folder. Here is an example that assign drive "Z" to my Music folder.

Open your command prompt then type:
subst z: "j:\Songs Collection"

Running the command above created a new drive Z as shown below.

How to Create a Virtual Drive of a Folder in Windows

Take note that the subst command cannot be used with mapped network folders and these virtual drives are temporary and will be gone as soon as you restart your system. To make it permanent, you can add the subst command on your autoexec.bat.

Automatically Login and Lock Windows 7

Auto Login and Lock Windows 7In most Windows version, you can always disable the logon screen by tweaking it a bit. But a system without password at startup can open up security concerns so it is still better if Windows ask you for a password. But with the logon screen enabled, it takes some time to load windows services and all other startup programs. So how can you make it boot faster without sacrificing security? Your system should auto login and then auto lock Windows. This can be achieve through the Auto Logon & Lock tweak, so that when you hit the Power button and return a few minutes later to login, you won't need to wait for all those startup programs to load.

Some of the benefits from this tweak:
- Faster boot time.
- Automatically resume downloads etc. when your PC reboots due to a power failure or crash.
- It password protects Safe Mode as well. Existing auto logon methods leave Safe Mode unprotected.
- It locks the desktop before Explorer is started. Other methods auto-lock using an autorun/start up entry which leave the PC logged on and unlocked until the autorun entries are executed (which can even take several minutes).

To install the tweak on your system, follow these steps:
1. Download Auto Login and Lock app.
2. Run "Lock.exe" from the archive to test if the application runs without errors. If successful, your desktop should be locked. Logon again and Windows Explorer should be open.
3. Copy the files "Lock.exe" and "LockCMD.exe" to your Windows directory. (Ex: C:\Windows).
4. Run "lockcmd.reg" from the archive and click Yes in the dialog box. You must run this while logged on to the account which you want to enable auto logon for.
5. Click Start and type "netplwiz.exe" on the Run dialog then press Enter.
6. Uncheck the checkbox "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" and click OK. Enter the Username and Password of the account you want to enable auto logon for.
7. Restart your PC to test it.

Auto Login and Lock is tested on Windows Vista (32-bit & 64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit & 64-bit).

Recover Lost PST Password

With the continuous evolution of software and web services security, remembering all passwords on all these apps can be difficult. So if you forgot the password like what I always do on my Personal Storage file (PST), its normal and luckily recoverable (at least on PST). If you forget the password of your pst files, you can use the free PstPassword tool to quickly recover that password. PstPassword is a portable application that don't need to be installed on your windows system. To start using it, just run the executable file.

Recover Lost PST Password

If you run PstPassword, it displays the list of all PST files of the current logged on user (Under Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook). For each password-protected PST file, PstPassword provide 3 alternative passwords that will open the PST file. If the PST is not protected by a password, the 3 password columns remain empty, and the CRC value column is 0x00000000. If you need to recover a password from a PST file that doesn't appear in the default logged user, you can press F7 and select the desired PST file, or simply drag the PST file from Explorer window into the main window of PstPassword.

Have you ever been into a situation where you need to create a gantt chart but unfortunately you don't have Microsoft Project at Home? Most home users usually cannot afford the Office package that includes Microsoft Project - which is the most common project and task management software available in Windows PC. But we call ourselves blessed because we are already on the new era of internet age when opensource and freeware are readily available. So how about a free web-based project management tool called Gantter.

Free Web-Based Project Management Tool - Gantter

Gantter interface is almost the same with Microsoft Project so if you already familiar with MS Project, surely you can find your way around easier. Just like in MS Project you start by adding tasks, setting dependencies between them (Finish-to-Start, Start-to-Start, Finish-to-Finish, Start-to-Start), indenting them to create summary tasks. Then you add resources, modify their calendars if necessary, assign resources to tasks.

You can also open Gantter projects in MS Project because Gantter saves the result in MS Project's XML format. It also supports importing projects created in MS Project.
